DALLAS -- Dallas Stars captain Jamie Benn has been suspended two games by the NHL for cross-checking Vegas Golden Knights captain Mark Stone during Game 5 of their second-round playoff series Tuesday night.
The suspension was announced by the NHL Department of Player Safety on Wednesday and will apply to the playoffs or regular season. Benn was given a minor penalty for the hit, which occurred late in the second period of the Stars' 4-2 victory.
Stone was not injured on the play and remained in the game.
This is Benn's second suspension of the season. He was suspended five games in December for a hit on Colorado Avalanche forward Nathan MacKinnon.
The Stars are now without their captain for the crucial Game 6 of their series against the Golden Knights on Thursday night. The Stars trail 3-2 in the series.
