Ford Wants To Patent Speed-Sensing Police Technology
Ford patent includes automatic reporting to police
Technology could be rolled out in other vehicles too
Ford has had a patent approved in the US that enables a police car to use a set of in-built sensors to detect speeding. The title of the patent is Systems and Methods for Detecting Speeding Violations originally filed by Ford.
A Ford spokesperson said that the patent is specifically designed for use on law-enforcement vehicles. But as Ford is one of the world’s largest US-based automakers, it could also point to a broader rollout of the technology in its vehicles.
The patent application contains details of a system that would use sensors to detect speeding vehicles.
A report containing both speed data and images of the targeted vehicle could then be sent directly to a law enforcement database.
